GREAT RUNNING OF WELCH, TAYLOR AND MANOREK FEATURES TIGERS 21 - 10 VICTORY OVER MONTREAL TEAM.
After a pre-season loss to Balmy Beach, injuries and a hurried shakeup to put together a viable team, the 1936 Tigers put on a grand show in front of home fans at the HAAA grounds on Saturday. With determination and much hustle, the Jungle Kings gained a victory over the highly-touted Montreal Indians in then first game of the season. The victory was gained despite the loss of stars Jerry Brock and Clem Faust who were declared ineligible by the league. Hustle and determination and key runs and catches at critical times were the winning formula.
It was their strong running attack and brilliant defence in the second half that vaulted them to victory and a good start at defending their league championship of last season. Tigers counted two touchdowns, one placement and eight singles to lead the way and maintained their domination particularly in the second half where it counts the most.

Refusing to fall behind in the race for first place after their loss to Montreal the previous week, the Tigers fought their way into a tie for top spot with the Argos by trouncing the Oarsmen by a score of 12-8.
It was a hard fought win braved by 8,000 fans in inclement weather and a wet and muddy field. Tigers led in first quarter 3-0 from a placement and 4-1 at the half. They gained their lone touchdown in the third to boost their lead to 11-1. Argos responded with a spectacular "try" that reduced the edge to 11-7 at the end of the third.
Both teams had chances to score touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but failed sue to the wet, slippery field. Each team had to settle for a single point in the final score 12-8

Game 4 vs Ottawa at Ottawa, Oct. 24:
The headline in Monday?s Spectator read "ROUGH RIDERS SURPRISE TIGERS WITH FINE PLAY"

YELLOW AND BLACK TAKE 21-0 LOSS AS OTTAWA STALWARTS HIT HEIGHTS WITH GREAT DISPLAY AT CAPITOL
After opening the season with two straight losses to the Argos and barely beating Montreal last week, the Riders put on their best show and soundly trounced the defending champions by a score of 21-0. This leaves the Argos in first place with a 3-1 record and Ottawa and Hamilton tied for second with identical records of 2 wins and 2 losses.
A speedy backfield led by Dave Sprague took over the game in the second quarter and kept the Tigers in their own end of rhe firld throughout. Andy Tommy and Jack Daley showed great speed in running back punts close to two hundred yards on the game. Wadsworth, Herman and Sprague added to the Bengals misery by ripping large holes in the Bengals defence. Overall the tigers were out-coached and badly outplayed. The Riders were full value for their victory.
Next game is the return match at the HAAA grounds where the Tigers get their chance for revenge and hopefully keep their chances alive to vie for first place in the IRFU standings.

Game 5 vs Ottawa at HAAA grounds, Oct.31:
Mondays headlines read "JUNGLE KINGS RETURN TO FORM IN THRILLING DUEL
YELLOW AND BLACK TIE FOR BIG FOUR LEAD AND GAIN REVENGE BY TROUNCING RIDERS 21 TO 15.

The Jungle Kings took revenge over last week's humiliation in the Capital by clawing their way to a thrilling, hard fought victory over the Riders. This put them in a tie for first place with the Argos, both teams sporting a 3-2 record and facing off against each other next Saturday for the Big Four title.
Despite playing against the wind, they managed to finish the first quarter with a 3-3 tie. By the end of the third quarter they led by 18-15 and managed 3 singles in the final quarter to earn their 21-15 victory.
Led by savage tackling on the lines and containment of Ottawa's speedy backs on the ends, the Tigers were able to maintain their superiority throughout and gain their victory. This determined play managed to prevent Sprague, Herman, and friends from gaining first downs. On the line stellar play was shown by Friday, Summerhayes, Mountain, Law, Harris, Stull and Zvonkin. This combined with huge gins ripped off by Welch, Patterson and Taylor kept the Riders off balance throughout the match.

Playoff Game vs Ottawa at HAAA grounds, November 14 :
The Spectator headline on Monday morning read "JUNGLE KINGS ELIMINATED IN THRILLING 3-2 BATTLE". ROUGH RIDERS CASH IN ON BENGAL ERROR FOR FIELD GOAL AND FIGHT OFF TIGERS' DESPERATE RALLY
Tigers last hope for retaining their Big Four title was felled by a fumble in the third quarter on their own 30 yard line. It was almost certainly due to the wet and muddy field conditions which plagued the game throughout. At that point the game was scoreless despite the superb kicking of Welch and Turville, which gave them an edge in play and field condition throughout the game. But the costly fumble led to an Ottawa field goal putting the Riders ahead 3-. Two singles in the fourth quarter narrowed the gap and Ottawa held off a desperate attempt to rally and secured their victory by the final score 3-2. This will give them the right to play the Argos next week for the league title.
